Half year ago, we took part of a special event: a paired tasting of 17 different cuvées of Krug, the famous champagne house from Reims, plus 3 more bottles from the same house as a surprise. The tasting, that gathered champagne lovers from all Europe, was organized by our great host Dominik Betschart (Greenhat for friends) at the 4 stars hotel Boutique Glacier’s restaurant located in the beautiful alpine village of Grindelwald (Switzerland) .

Grindelwald is a touristic charming village, situated at 1034m above sea level and facing the North face of the Eiger mountain (3967m), famous between mountain climbers for its difficulty.

The event started on the restaurant’s charming terrace with a welcoming glass of Krug 166th edition served from magnum. The tasting included 4 flights of 4 cuvées, each flight paired with a delicious dish.

We had the chance to compare interesting cuvées, such as Clos du Mesnil 2008 / Vintage 2008 or Clos du Mesnil 2004 / Vintage 2004, and the extraordinary duet Clos d’Ambonnay 1996 / Back Vintage 1996 . Stay tuned for a future post about these amazing bottles and more on tasting notes!

As a surprise, at the end of the tasting, two more bottles were offered, both in magnum size: the Vintage 1998 and the Vintage 2000.

At the end of the day we were all kruggified and it was amazing! An unforgettable experience that took place in a dream village.
