We visited: Deutz

So far we’ve had the opportunity to try many different bottles of champagne produced by Deutz, but never had the chance to visit the domain, as it is quite private and rarely open for public. In July 2024, the doors of this historical house finally opened for us and we’ve made an exclusive visit. We will not enter into the history of the Maison as we did it previously while sharing the tasting impression and notes of the famous cuvée Amour de Deutz rosé 2009 – link here – but rather we will focus on the beauty of the visit.

At the entrance of the cellars

The first part of the visit was concentrated around the wine producing facilities, the cellars, the bottling facilities and the terroir. We were invited to see the notorious lieu-dits “La Côte Glacière” and “Meurtet” in Aÿ.

After a very interesting tour of the champagne storage and production dependencies, we stepped into the old family’s mansion, perfectly preserving its original decorations and vibe, for a delicious tasting. We were thrilled by the beauty of the tasting space, “Le Salon aux Oiseaux” (the Birds Salon), a Chinese-inspired room designed and created in the XIX century by William Deutz’s daughter, Marie.

The beautiful experience ended up with a walk through the domain’s park, unfortunately the weather was not on our side as it was pouring and windy, but even so, we enjoy its romantic, full of history, alleys.
