Founded in 1812, in Tours-sur-Marne, a small village between Epernay y Châlons-en-Champagne, by a former cooper and bottler, Alphonse Pierlot, la maison Laurent-Perrier is the main company of the Laurent-Perrier Group, whose other flagship brands include the houses of Salon, De Castellane and Delamotte. Laurent-Perrier house is now the 5th major champagne producer in the world.
Initially, Alphonse Pierlot purchased two parcels of land named “Plaisances” and “La Tour Glorieux” in Tours-sur-Marne, then he left his company to his cellar master, Eugène Laurent, who ran it with his wife, Mathilde Emilie Perrier. This is when the name Laurent-Perrier emerged (even if the name changed when Eugène died to “Veuve” Laurent-Perrier). The history of this famous champagne house is just amazing and will be the subject to a future post. Now let’s focus on “La Cuvée” Brut, the NV essence of Laurent-Perrier house, a blend of more than 100 crus. Its crisp freshness arise immediately after opening the bottle, followed by notes of tropical fruits, pineapple and white flowers. Dry on the palate with fine bubbles, this cuvée is slightly creamy with hints of boulangerie, green apple and citrus zest. The aftertaste is long and accompanied by high minerality. An amazing champagne to enjoy on a summer afternoon!
